FAQ

What is BroadsByCycle ?

BroadsByCycle is the self-service bike hire scheme for the Broads, with bikes available for short-term rental along the new Three Rivers Way.

How do I get the code for the combination lock?

When you rentr a bike at a station, the combination code for that bike will be shown on the console. Alternatively, you can retrieve the code online through this website. Login using your membership number and PIN, and under My Account (click on your name), go to "external lock code" and the system will show you the combination lock codes for any bikes you have out on rent.

How long can I take a bike for?

When you rent a bike you must return the bike by midnight on the day of rental. We will contact the renters of any unreturned bikes, and will consider a bike stolen if it is not returned to a station, or we have not been informed of its whereabouts within 48 hours.

What if the bike breaks down while I am riding?

Stop riding immediately and notify us on 01603-552563. Our breakdown team will endeavor to come out to repair the bike or issue a replacement as soon as possible.

What if there is a technical problem with the station when I return the bike?

In this case lock the bike securely nearby using the combination lock, and either email us – thebroads@hourbike.com – or call us on 01603 552563 to end your hire. The bike is your responsibility until you do this.

There aren’t any bikes at the station.

There may be times when all the bikes are in use. It is normal for bikes from some stations to be used more frequently. You should not book bikes for daily hire without making quite sure that bikes are available. Remember that you can check on availability via the online map but you should not book the bikes too far in advance as stock levels change constantly and availability cannot be confirmed until you arrive at the station.

Can I use a bike without my membership card number and PIN?

For security reasons you will need to have both your membership number and PIN number. You may change the PIN number to a 4 digit number that is more memorable for you - log into the website with your username and password and you can change your PIN online.

Where are the bikes and stations located?

Please see the map and check the website for exact locations and numbers of bikes currently at our docking stations.

How does it work ?

BroadsByCycle is very simple. Sign up as either a member online or by calling
01603 552563. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a membership number and PIN. After making payment – see below - simply key in your membership number and PIN at any of the stations and select a bike to rent.

How do I pay?

Daily members pay for the hire when they sign up. Monthly or Annual members have an account and top-up the credit to give a balance to use for hire at any time.

What to do if the station is full

In this case, lock the bike securely nearby using the combination lock and email (support@hourbike.com) or call on 01865 238013 to end your hire. The bike is your responsibility until you do this.

What if I forget my PIN?

Call us on 01603-552563 and we will call you to verify your details and issue you with a new PIN number.

I've forgotten the Bike combination lock code

If you don't have the bike lock code and you need to lock up your bike, you can retrieve the code online through the website or the app. If you are using the website, go to www.oxonbikes.co.uk, login using your membership number and PIN, and under My Account (click on your name), go to "external lock code" and the system will show you the combination lock codes for any bikes you have out on rent. On the App, the External Lock Code symbol is shown on the main page after you login.

What about Helmets ?

Helmets are not provided with your BroadsByCycle as we are unable to guarantee the safety of the helmets provided. We do however encourage cyclists to bring their own helmets to wear.

I’ve noticed a bike at the station has been damaged.

If you find a bicycle that is damaged please tell us. If you have time it is useful if you can turn the saddle sideways to indicate to other people it is not to be used.

How to open the combination lock

  • Line the four numbers up against the small triangle shapes
  • Push the two big silver shapes TOWARDS the numbers
  • The lock will pop open
